the condition of sleep.

quickly sketching out compositional sketches for larger works that i'll get to in the new year or potentially (and preferably) over the course of the holidays if i can find the space. my fingers are itching for more practice as i re-adopt the method of translating dreams into materialized thought. 'tis the season for the elaborate, after all.

anonymity:

aquatint and intaglio.
add it to the list and click here to see this image enlarged. you can see the full print here, though the image is a lot darker and a really poor documentation. scanners and edited photographs eliminate much of the detail you would otherwise see.

intimate distance.

first - i apologize for the photo quality in these shots. my camera is hardly suited to take pictures of my friends, let along take 'professional' shots of my work. i assure you that face-to-face, these are milky, and sharp. click here to see them together in larger format.

the concept behind these is the intimate distance we feel with the state of being asleep; the intimacy we feel with it, and the distance created from observing it. i used klimt's sketches of women sleeping as source material because they objectify the unconscious, and sexualize the subject as an observer.

i used oil sticks and solvent on mylar, and collectively they are 5 by 6 feet.

"woman."

click these words right here to see the full series enlarged. these are also taking part in the selling that i mentioned in the last post. it's possible that my taste buds are getting turned onto painting, by the way. for anyone who knows me personally, this is big.
